Project Description
Electric trike conversion kit manufacturers Gride Solutions turned to a product promotional video to earn trust and boost sales
When you want to ramp up your sales for a specific product, then a product promotional video really is the way to go. You can highlight all the features, show how it beats the competition, and get people excited to be able to use it themselves.
Gride Solutions are a UK company which manufactures and sells electric bike conversion kits – and they were looking to launch their new trike conversion kit to the US market.
But since this is breaking new ground for them, they knew they’d need to do something different to earn the trust of US customers, and win over the dealers selling the trikes. And that’s where this trike promo video comes in.
What was the pre-production process?
Company director Alex Pargeter had already done a lot of work with a marketing company working out their product’s key features, and how it compared to the competition.
In the case of the e-trike conversion kit, this was features such as easy install, clean cable routing, and a throttle ready mode.
This information is perfect for when you’re organising a product promotional video shoot, as it means you know what shots you need to capture on the day.
My role was to make suggestions on the style of the video – and I suggested that a dynamic voiceover would really bring the video to life, compared to the videos that Gride Solution’s competition were putting out.
The rest of the pre-production process therefore involved developing a script for the video, and writing a shot list to ensure we captured all of the footage on the filming day that we’d need.
I found both a voiceover artist and a photographer to collaborate with for the shoot as well, and managed that side of the project.
I also made suggestions on filming locations, based on where we’d be able to get permission to film the e-trike in action.
What was the filming process?
The first part of the day took us to a farm in Cheshire, which Alex got permission for us to shoot at. This was great, as there were loads of wide open tracks where I was able to chase after the trike like a lunatic with my camera on a gimbal!
At one point I even got in the back of a flat bed truck to and filmed from there to show the speeds the trike could reach.
For the afternoon, we wanted to show the e-trike in a more off-road, trails based environment, so we headed to some local woods.
This was definitely the most active shoot I’ve ever been on! Hell of a lot of fun though.
What was the editing process like?
Once all of the best footage from the day had been put into the editing software, I produced a version of the video using my voice as a sample – felt like I was back in radio!
This meant we could tweak the words of the script to properly match the footage, so that we didn’t have to pay for multiple takes from the voiceover artist. Once the fantastic Tanya got the script, she nailed it in one go.
I also sourced a pacy and punchy music track, and produced animated comparison tables for the video.
Alex and the team wanted to be able to use the footage to make their own social media ads in Canva, so I produced a video stockpile of over fifty of the best clips from the shoot, which were ready for them to edit with straight away.
Finally, I subtitled the video and produced a branded video thumbnail.
